Even though we like our little Lada a lot, we know that in the end we need to create some space around the house, so our Lada 1200S is for sale . On this blog you can see the Lada-bid-o-meter for the current asking price. We wrote this blog so you can see what state the vehicle is, and all the work that got into it to get it so far. The name of this blog blablalada  derived from a Dutch TV commercial "Lada, een auto zonder bla bla", which can be translated as "Lada a car without pretenses". "Famous" Lada 2101

Our Lada got national attention on several occasions. AutoBlog Before I bought the vehicle it got mentioned on Hollands largest Automotive blog; Lada Club Nederland Even the Dutch Lada Club wrote about the original advertisement (the one where the first owner asked € 7.500,- for the car); YouTube We rented out our beloved Lada on SnappCar, and that resulted in an great YouTube video by the guys from the " Eigenbaardig " channel on youtube. replacing A-pillar covers

With the years plastics become bridle. The black covers on the A-pillars in the interior where cracked. Not something you would notice from a distance and for certain not something that is of great importance, but hey... they are cheap to replace. Easy job, great result.

windscreen wipers

A topic for such easy subject? Yes, because the windscreen wipers you can buy at your local carparts store are all for the typical modern wiper-arm; standard modern car In Russia some things are different..... The wiper arms don't have the "hook" on a Lada 21013, they have a straight end. I noticed during heavy rainfall that both wipers made an annoying noise. Not strange when you discover that the clips were held by tie rips... Instead of going for the usual suspects Bosch, Valeo, SWF, I did visit www.ladapower-europe.com again. Good choice, because these Russian wipers came with the correct clip for the straight Lada 2101 wipers.

repairing the nasty "tap" in the speedometer

After the first drive in this old Lada, I notice the "tap" in the speedometer. It is pretty noisy, but doesn't affect the speedometer readings. Both the kilometer (mile) counter and the speed needle reflected the reality. With the 1 owner history of this car, and the reassuring paperwork that came with it, I don't have any doubts about the mileage on the clock, but I for sure want to get rid of the noise it makes. First step; taking out the speedometer-housing. Although I have a service manual for the 2101 Lada, it didn't help me a lot. No pictures there and just a vague description "remove the cluster by pressing both leaf springs". The Lada Owners club of Great Brittain on Facebook ( www.facebook.com/ladaownersclubofgreatbritain ) helped me to take the first step. But to help others tackle this issue, I've made some pictures. Getting to the back of the speedometer was a bit of a hassle, but after that the problem was

Seat repair

On the "To do list" was the repair of the driver side seat. The reclining function didn't work anymore. Since there were marks of an pipe wrench on the knob, it's probably broken. But first we have to investigate what happened. Removing the Lada 2101 seat slide the seat in the utmost forward position at the rear of both sliding rails is a cross head bolt, unscrew them slide the seat in the utmost backward position on the front of the sliding rails is 1x cross head bolt and 1x a 13mm nut (which you unscrew from below). Functions of the Lada 2101 seat the handle on the centre side of the vehicle has 1 function; move down and you are able to slide the seat the other handle (the big round knob) has got 2 functions; turn the knob and you can fine-adjust the reclining of the back. For function two, you push the knob to the ground, then you get the rapid reclining function of the back And now the reality... * a couple of hours later *, ok... tha

New exterior color?

With the braun interior, it remains the question if this fits with the original red outdoor paint. So maybe... maybe the car will be repainted in a green color. Thanks to the internet we did find this chart with original Lada colors; And than there is this beautifull site, with clickable colors, so that you can see how it fits the car; http://www.veteranzsiguli.hu/szinkodok.html So far I really like the 345 light olive; But untill now I didn't find a corresponding RAL color for that. RAL6011 comes close..

Historical plates

One of the first improvements was replacing the modern yellow EU-license plates for more time approiate historical plates. Simple job.... Untill the moment, that you realise that the modern plates are larger. In fact the yellow plates were screwed to the vehicle with the outer mounting slots. So we now have a lada with 1 hole left to the rear plate, and 1 hole to the right. We will fix that later on. Modern plates are installed with plastic frames, commonly (anti theft) in combination with rivets or screws. For our authentic look we didn't want to dammage the plate on the front surface. We went for PVC blocks, carefully positioned on the rear of the license plate. The PVC blocks are pre-drilled with M6 thread. With the rear now in a more historical look (we also did take off the plastic "katalysator-emblem", it's time to move to the front of the vehicle. Again the original brackets are too wide. So we made new brackets o
