The great Lada to do list

With old cars, there is always a to do list. In fact, it's a never-ending list.

  • cleaning inside and outside
  • check tires
  • check brakes
  • repair armrest left
  • change/repair battery-holder
  • little light under bonnet doesn't seem to work
  • paint spot repair
  • screenwash tank is not original


So far we did cover these items;

  • installation of historical blue plate
  • deletion of the "katalysator" emblem
  • replace front fender
  • repair door right hand side
  • oil SAE 20W 50
  • repair seat mechanism
  • extra padding in driver seat
  • "repair" the thicking/tapping sound from the speedometer
  • interior floormats in the front and back (black)
  • replace the A-pillar covers for new ones

repairing the nasty "tap" in the speedometer

After the first drive in this old Lada, I notice the "tap" in the speedometer. It is pretty noisy, but doesn't affect the speedometer readings. Both the kilometer (mile) counter and the speed needle reflected the reality. With the 1 owner history of this car, and the reassuring paperwork that came with it, I don't have any doubts about the mileage on the clock, but I for sure want to get rid of the noise it makes. First step; taking out the speedometer-housing. Although I have a service manual for the 2101 Lada, it didn't help me a lot. No pictures there and just a vague description "remove the cluster by pressing both leaf springs". The Lada Owners club of Great Brittain on Facebook ( www.facebook.com/ladaownersclubofgreatbritain ) helped me to take the first step. But to help others tackle this issue, I've made some pictures. Even though we like our little Lada a lot, we know that in the end we need to create some space around the house, so our Lada 1200S is for sale .
